Change of Scenery

In photography, wander

We put the cell data network coverage to the test on Friday and ducked out late in the afternoon to get a geographical head start on the weekend. We were hoping to get to a snowy trailhead north of Durango early enough on Saturday morning to get some decent snowshoeing distance under our belts (which totally would have happened if we hadn’t detoured through the excellent Backcountry Experience outdoor shop in Durango on the way). So, with one of us working from the car, we managed to get half of the drive out of the way on Friday evening. We spent the night canyonside at the BLM Angel Peak Scenic Area campground south of Bloomfield – a convenient location for making the dash up to Durango. Unfortunately, the campground isn’t really set up for tent campers – the only level spots are the parking pads at each site, however, thanks to the cold air, I guess, we had the place to ourselves. It was a nice change of pace to be surrounded by bare rock glowing all pink and orange at sunset, even if it was accompanied by the mechanical hum of all the nearby drilling sites. Hopefully our next visit with be longer so we can scramble around and explore the canyon a bit.
